Ineffables

Mostly accurate. Definitely nice.

Enjoying the Good Omens convention from home with a mug of cocoa. Can you believe it’s already been over a week since Ineffable Con 2?

Here at Ineffables.co.uk, we’ve just about recovered our energy levels. Who would have thought that attending a Good Omens convention online would be every bit as exhausting as attending one in person?

Exhausting, and just as much fun. Maybe we didn’t get to meet up and hang out for real, but the benefits on an online meet more than made up for that. We didn’t have to travel long distance or find accommodation, and any event we couldn’t attend in person was available for catch up at our leisure. As relatively awkward socialisers we were happy to enjoy the entire thing in our little rattie pyjamas, from the comfort of our own homes.

About the Convention

So – on to the con itself. There was something for everyone, artists, cosplayers, fic writers, gamers, along with some truly fascinating panels. The guest list was impressive – it seemed as though every aspect of the show was covered.

It was wonderful to share an hour with Neil, Rob and Doug. Equally wonderful to catch glimpses behind the making of the title credits, the music, or an insight into costume design with Peter Anderson, Claire Anderson or Dave Arnold. Also lovely to listen to the history behind Mary the Bentley, learn more about Sir Terry Pratchett with Marc Burrows, or have a chance to quiz the actor behind our ‘disposable demon’, with Paul Adeyefa.

Aside from the special guests, the fandom-run panels were every bit as interesting. From fanart though cosplay to astronomy, great to see people throwing themselves into their interests with such love and enthusiasm.

As a trader, once we’d learned the interface we found managing the trade booth relatively easy. We enjoyed browsing trade booths, like browing through the trade stands at any other con, without the exhausting legwork. Another advantage of a digital con – we didn’t have to rush to attend an event on time. It was also great to be able to leave a message for a vendor if they weren’t immediately available. One of the highlights was returning to our little corner and reading and responding to all of our comments.

The Principality Challenge

A special mention here to everyone who helped @Mr_AZ_Fell with the Principality Challenge videos. You all did a brilliant job and we will eventually archive all the challenge videos here on the website so that they can be enjoyed once again.

Highlight of the Year

The entire convention was well organised, well thought out, and designed with the fans in mind. The organisers and their team did an incredible job, and we’d like to thank them for their dedication and the months of planning and hard work that they’ve clearly put into this. If you ever read this, Bethany and Rachael, we think you’re both amazing. You made a wonderful event. For many of us, the Ineffable Con 2 will stand out as a true highlight of a very difficult year.

Finally, we learned that all of the extra proceeds of the con will be going to Alzheimers Research UK. What a wonderful gesture, and what an incredible, inclusive, warm and welcoming fandom this is. We’d like to think that Sir Terry would be proud.

To the World!
